ADAS Calibration

Many newer vehicles have a camera or sensors mounted behind the windshield. They power Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) like lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control. When the windshield is replaced, that camera has to be recalibrated so it sees the road the way the manufacturer intended. A camera that’s off by even a small amount can make these safety features react late, or not at all.

Recalibration is a safety requirement, not an option. Industry safety standards and vehicle manufacturers require ADAS recalibration after a windshield replacement on equipped vehicles. At Magic Glass it’s never optional: if your vehicle needs it, we do it. If a shop tells you recalibration is optional, that shop isn’t following the safety standard, and we wouldn’t trust it with your windshield.

Pre-scan and post-scan. Before we start, we scan your vehicle’s systems for existing trouble codes. If we find a pre-existing code that could affect the recalibration after we install the new glass, we let you know up front. After the work is done, we scan again to confirm the systems are working. We can give you copies of both scans on request.

We do ADAS recalibration in-house at all three of our shops. Your new windshield and your recalibration are handled together by the same team, so there’s no second appointment at the dealer. We follow the vehicle manufacturer’s calibration procedures. Most calibrations are done in our shop, and some vehicles can be calibrated on-site.

Recalibration is often covered by insurance as part of a windshield replacement. Our dedicated insurance specialist will help you with the claim.

It depends on the vehicle, but plan on extra time beyond the windshield replacement itself, often an hour or more.

Static calibration is done with the vehicle parked in front of special targets. Dynamic calibration is done by driving the vehicle under set conditions. Some vehicles need one, and some need both. We follow the manufacturer’s procedure for your vehicle.

Some vehicles can be calibrated on-site. Most are done in our shop, where we have the space and targets the procedure requires. We’ll let you know which applies to your vehicle.
